"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" Mini-Review

I would never waste my own money on a Michael Bay film, but was curious when I learned that my nephew was attending a late show last night. We had the following exchange via Twitter:

Kyle: "At Transformers 3 in 3d ..."

Me: "Is it as bad as everyone says?"

Kyle: "eh, its a typical michael bay: good visual/sound, special effects, action, etc, but lame plot, shallow characters, drags on."

Me: "Not exactly an endorsement."

Three Musketeers Trailer

This movie looks like it could be fun to watch as long as you forget the book that it is loosley based on.  It is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the guy who does the Resident Evil films, so there will be a lot of action in it.

"Alpha" Preview, Review - Get Your "Heroes" Fix

If you're still longing for the departed "Heroes," you might find your humans-with-special-abilities fix in the upcoming SyFy series "Alphas." For some of you - ahem! - older readers, throw in a touch of "Mission Impossible," too.

Alphas is a team of five people with a variety of the aforementioned abilities. Bill Harken (Malik Yoba), for example, can control his adrenalin; he can summon super-strength for short periods of time. Nina Theroux (Laura Mennell) can control the actions of other people through her power of suggestion. And so on.

How Come Wonder Woman Doesn't Get Any Love?

She is one of the more recognizable super hero's in the world and yet during this era of comic book movies she has yet to show up.  Why is that?  Even the attempts to get her another show on television has failed.  Since her debut in All Star Comics way back in December of 1941 Wonder Woman has had a presence in the newsstands and comic book shops ever since.   But there is no movie or plans to even make one.  Yes there has been the stuff that came out in the mid 70's like that horrible Cathy Lee

Holy Dr. Who! Matt Smith plays Batman!

Matt Smith donned the famous cape and cowl over the weekend to play the World's Greatest Detective. Smith was participating in 24 Hour Plays (the scripts are written the night before, giving the actors just a single day to rehearse) in Santa Monica, Calif.

According to The Telegraph:
At the start of his play - called Gotham Autopsy - Smith was covered in a sheet in a mortuary before he came to life as a confused Batman. Comedian and Don't Mess With Zohan star Nick Swardson starred as Robin. Also in his play was Kick Ass star Lyndsy Fonseca and fellow Brit Saffron Burrows. Half-way through the 20-minute skit Smith dropped his fake American accent and became a cockney to huge laughs from the audience.

No Shat: The Original Captain Kirk Will NOT Be in the Next Star Trek Movie

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi and William Shatner.
William Shatner told an audience over the weekend that he does not expect to have a role in the next Star Trek movie. Responding to a question from the audience at the Calgary Expo in Calgary, Canada, Shatner was blunt, according to a report at TrekMovie.com:

I’ve become an acquaintance of (director) J.J. (Abrams) of late…But, I’m afraid no, no I will not be in Star Trek 2.
Instead, Shatner told fans that his "final farewell" to the role he made famous on television and in the movies will be his participation in the upcoming "The Captains" documentary.

Of course, Captain Kirk already died in the movies and came back, so ...

X-Men: First Class Movie Review (Spoilers)

Now I'll confess that I do not know diddly squat about X-Men or their history but I do know a little to get by.  I more or less know who the major players are and did read the comic sparingly in the 80's but that is it.  So going to see this movie I had my doubts as the last X-Men movie was a clear disappointment and the Wolverine movie was decent but nothing to write home about.  So what did I

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Movie Review (Spoilers)

Being a fan of the last 3 Pirates movie most notably the first one which is one of my all time favorite movies to watch due to it's fun nature and action sequences mainly of the sword fighting kind.  The other two kind of got a little bit more into magic and mysticism.  Some parts just of the next two got a bit bizarre but were pretty good once they got going.  Mainly with the 3rd one.  So going into the 4th

Doctor Who: A Good Man Goes To War Review (Spoilers Sweety)

Doctor Who: A Good Man Goes To War
By Steven Moffat

The series six mid way point is here and the big revelation is here and judging by the response on the Internet this story will go down as one of the big ones.  But should it. Was A Good Man Goes To War a great episode or will it be mainly viewed in the eyes of the fans as one of the greatest stories ever due to the fact that we find out who River Song really is.  The clues are all there in this episode as

DC Comics Reboots It's Universe

DC Comics has made the big announcement that all of their titles will be starting over with a new number 1.  It appears this reboot will come this September and will be the result of what happens in Flashpoint # 5 that comes out in August.  I have mixed feelings about this as it seems like a stupid idea that you would see Marvel Comics do.  But I will keep an open mind and wait and see what happen.  You can read the whole article here at the Newsarama website.
